The Royal Decree of 1995 granted autonomous status to Thimphu City Corporation . TCC became an autonomous body with the enactment of Bhutan Municipal Act 1999. It is governed by the City Committee. Committee meeting is convened at an interval of one and half months. The 1st committee was constituted in 1995, 2nd in 2003 and 3rd in 2006. Present committee consists of 17 members where 8 representatives are elected from 6 zones and 7 representatives from Government organization with the Chairman and Thrompon (Mayor) appointed by the RGOB. The last Government appointed Thrompon, Dasho Nima Wangdi was promoted to Secretary of MoWHS and not replaced as henchforth, the Thrompon was going to be elected from the public by the public. TCC is currently headed by Executive Secretary who is appointed by the government.
